from 24,000 Americans taken early last year is the latest and largest study to suggest that the new coronavirus popped up in the U.S. in December 2019 -- weeks before cases were first recognized by health officials.

"There was probably very rare and sporadic cases here earlier than we were aware of. But it was not widespread and didn't become widespread until late February," said Thornburg, principal investigator of the CDC's respiratory virus immunology team.Such results underscore the need for countries to work together and identify newly emerging viruses as quickly and collaboratively as possible, she added.

A CDC-led study published in December 2020 that analyzed 7,000 samples from American Red Cross blood donations suggested the virus infected some Americans as early as the middle of December 2019. The researchers say seven study participants -- three from Illinois, and one each from Massachusetts, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin -- were infected earlier than any COVID-19 case was originally reported in those states.

Came home from Vegas end of Nov 2019. I was so freaking ill. And no, not hungover. Like, sick. Fever, chills, hurting everywhere. Chest infection. Was coughing for 3 months.

Cuz virus has so many variants, guess which one is the first one?

No doubt in Northern Ontario over Christmas never been so sick ever!

I live in Ontario and was in Detroit for a hockey game Dec 19, a few days later was so incredibly sick. It lasted well into Jan 2020

I've wondered about this, too. An Ontario business acquaintance of mine told me in February of 2020 that she came home from Italy in October of 2019 and was sicker than she's ever been in her life. Italy was hit early on by Covid, not long after China.

Yes of course it was...lol

And it was in Canada too by Christmas 2019 - why don't you write about that?

most people not following the mainstream news already knew that....

You think?!!!! I can almost Guarantee I had covid in beginning of Jan 2020. Never been so sick in my life.

And Canada

It was in EU in oct nov 2019. Including Italy and was in wastewater then

I know someone who thought they had it in November 2019.
