Roy was injured during Tuesday night’s game in Edmonton.

The 20-year-old was hurt during the Canadiens’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. In the third period, Roy made a courageous effort to block a shot, doing so with his right hand.Roy is in the midst of his first full season in pro hockey, and is certainly making a good impression with the Canadiens.

In 23 games, Roy has scored four goals and five assists, notching his first NHL goal in just his third game back on Jan. 17. Roy came into the pro ranks after a fruitful junior career with the Sherbrooke Phoenix, where he led the QMJHL in scoring during the 2021-22 season. He also represented his country in back-to-back World Junior Championships, helping Canada win gold in 2022 and 2023. Roy was one of the top three players on Team Canada’s during last year’s tournament.

The Canadiens have three more games on their western road trip, taking on the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, before visiting the Seattle Kraken on Sunday. They will wrap up the swing by taking on the Colorado Avalanche next Tuesday. Montreal is seventh in the Atlantic Division, two points ahead of the last-place Ottawa Senators, and four in front of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the worst record in the Eastern Conference.
