Moderna Inc said on Thursday it is developing a single vaccine that combines a booster dose against COVID-19 with its experimental flu shot.

The company hopes to eventually add vaccines it is working on for respiratory syncytial virus and other respiratory diseases as an annual shot.

"We believe this is a very large opportunity that is ahead of us, if we could bring to market a high efficacy pan-respiratory annual booster," Moderna Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Bancel said during a presentation to update investors on its drugs in development.Moderna and Pfizer Inc and German vaccine partner for BioNTech SE are already expected to reap billions of dollars from COVID-19 booster shots, analysts and healthcare investors said.

Moderna also provided updates on its ongoing mid-stage trial testing its authorized COVID-19 vaccine in children aged 6 months to 11 years old. It is testing a 50-microgram dose of the shot in the pediatric trial involving 4,000 children. Moderna's vaccine, which received an emergency use authorization for two 100-microgram doses for people aged 18 and older in the United States in December, is currently under an FDA review for use in adolescents.

Moderna said dose selection studies for different age groups such as 2 years to less than 6 years, and 6 months to below 2 years old, were still underway.Reporting by Michael Erman in New Jersey and Manojna Maddipatla in Bengaluru; Editing by Shinjini Ganguli and Bill Berkrot.

Canadian hospitals spend $23,000 on typical COVID-19 patient, report findsCanadian hospitals spent nearly $1 billion caring for patients with COVID-19, with the average cost per patient being $23,000. The Canadian government is doing very well for the citizens. But in my viewpoint, they should enlighten the community on how to safeguard themselves and others from Covid_19 Safety first. And how much do they spend on an addict that OD's once a month, an alcoholic who needs dialysis, a one-pack a day smoker cancer patient, a morbidly obese diabetic? Come on, CTV, do better than that divisive shite. That price tag goes for both ICU and non-ICU patients. By comparison, it is three times higher than the average cost of someone hospitalized for a heart attack, $8,000, and almost as costly as it is to hospitalize a kidney transplant patient, $27,000.

COVID-19: B.C. care providers fear 10 per cent staff exodus over mandatory vaccinationsMenno Place CEO Karen Biggs worries five to 10 per cent of staffers will move to acute health care system where vaccines not required by law. Pretty useless “care providers” if they don’t care enough to get vaccinated. Good riddance to them WTF. No wonder care facilities are still the hotspot for hospitalizations and deaths. Hope they all resign. Mandating a gene therapy shot that does not stop transmission is nonsense. What happens in a few months will you mandate the booster as well?
