Michelin Guide\u0027s international director announces that Vancouver is now a Michelin Guide destination.

Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides, said anonymous inspectors are already at work in Vancouver and the decision to come to Vancouver was dependent on the inspectors and Michelin Guide Vancouver “will be revealed in the fall.”

Poullennec said the guide has more than 15,000 restaurant recommendations worldwide with more than 3,000 at one, two, or three Michelin star level for unparalleled cuisine. Non-starred recommendations in the guide include the Bib Gourmand ratings for restaurants that offer good quality food at reasonable prices and the Michelin Green Star awarded to restaurants involved in sustainable gastronomy.

“Vancouver arguably has access to some of the best produce in the world and we have so many great cooks. It’s always been a bit of a struggle, not being an internationally recognized city,” he says, “so it’s a positive thing for Vancouver.” But, he says, he won’t be cooking for the inspectors. “We’re so many experiences for so many different people, it’s hard to categorize us into any one category.

Michelin is secretive about financial arrangements made with some of the destinations. For example, Forbes.com has reported that the state of California paid Michelin $600,000 in 2019 and Florida tourism board paid $150,000.“I won’t make any comments about the financial aspects but I come back to the fact that we are partnering with Vancouver for marketing, communications, broadcasting and amplifying what this city has.

Canadians brace for another rate hike Wednesday as economists fear for jobsThe Bank of Canada is widely expected to announce its largest rate hike since 1998 on Wednesday — fuelling fears among economists that the high cost of borrowing could lead the economy into a recession that will ultimately cost some Canadians their jobs. There sure are a lot of unfilled jobs. Massive business closures and home foreclosures. Welcome to the Alberta experience under Liberals! Time to rethink Canada’s way we deal with inflation. Driving economy into recession is not very logical. Maybe educate ppl on overspending and conserving money during hard times. Don’t by…price drops. Corporations become competitive again. greed
