Michael Shellenberger: Dismissing COVID lab leak theory highlights U.S. government disinformation

Had more experienced science writers written or edited the Times and Post stories, they might have noted that the original Lancet letter was not a peer-reviewed scientific study but rather a political statement replete with exhortations. “We sign this statement in solidarity with all the scientists and health professionals in China who continue to save lives and protect global health,” they wrote.

“Disinformation” may seem like a strong word to describe Daszak’s behavior, but it’s not. UNESCO and other institutions define disinformation as intentionally misleading misinformation. Daszak, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and perhaps many other people clearly intended to mislead when they spread the false information that the lab leak theory had been debunked and that it was merely a folk “conspiracy theory” rather than a scientific one that had been raised as a concern since at least 2015.

Now the link with the Chinese researchers who mailed unauthorized pathogen samples to China from the Winnipeg Lab.

We know it came from china probably not a mistake.

Knew it came from there as soon as the lab was reported in lockdown, anyone with a brain knew it, but it was racist to suggest it, as everything is these days. Could have saved millions, closing the air traffic from china immediately but that too was racist.

They haven't dismissed it. They just don't have sufficient evidence to conclude that with acceptable certainty.

Now do Canada, the Canadian Government coordinated their misinformation with the US misinformation. Then they decreed that the actual facts were disinformation.... A propaganda grand slam!

The US government employs too many politically active people that use their government authority to further their personal political ideology. Be careful, Canadian government is similarly infected by political employees.
