Mich. sheriff puts down his baton to listen to protesters, marches with them

A Michigan sheriff joined protesters in Flint Township on Saturday, putting down his weapon and saying, "I want to make this a parade, not a protest."

"The only reason we're here is to make sure that you got a voice -- that's it," Swanson said in video clips shown on Twitter.He was speaking to the crowd protesting police brutality and the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.So, he did. Flint has drawn national attention for its water crisis, which began in 2014, when city and state officials switched the city's water supply to save money. It exposed residents to dangerously high levels of lead and resulted in more than a dozen lawsuits.

This Sheriff,of Michigan is so amazing, want all God children to love ones and each other's... thank you Sheriff Michigan..from Canada!

Officers are taught to quell situations like this when they are overwhelmed by finding common ground. These demonstrators fell for this tactic, as will others and these protests will stop for a while, until the next officer is forced to use subdue another violent person.

You can see the light of human connection here. Well done on both sides - for the black community to accept the genuine support after so much pain and for the sheriff to offer support and de-escalate removing his helmet and baton.
