MEADOWVALE, N.S. — A Meadowvale family’s life is returning to normal after their beloved dog took them on a rollercoaster ride of emotions during the past week.
“By Sunday night, she was barely standing up on her own. It would take a lot of effort for her to stand up,” Caines explained March 22. “By Monday morning, we had to physically lift her hind end up to get her paws underneath her for her to stand.”on March 18. Tests determined Mia had arthritis in her spine, which is manageable, Lyme’s disease, which she is being treated for, and closed pyometra, which is a severe infection in the uterus.
A family friend, Mandy MacDougall, did a celebration of life photo session for the family before the March 19 appointment. “We went from 100 per cent thinking that we were going to lose her, from worst-case scenario to best-case scenario,” Caines said. “We were able to take her home later than night after the surgery.”“Her uterus was on the point of bursting,” Caines said. “If we had waited any longer, we would have a completely different outcome.”Caines said it has been a challenging week and knows Mia could sense the family’s concern.
