An executive at one of Canada's big grocery chains pushed back on the idea that customers have lost trust in grocery retailers. He said they 'show their trust every day' by shopping. He did not say where else they might find food to eat.

François Thibault decried ‘inflammatory language’ against grocers and told parliamentarians that sales speak for themselves.A grocery store in Moncton, N.B., in September 2021. Parliamentarians on the agriculture committee are investigating food price inflation.

The man holding the purse strings for one of Canada’s largest grocers doesn’t believe his company has lost the confidence of consumers because business is still booming. François Thibault, executive vice-president, chief financial officer and treasurer for Metro Inc., made this statement in testimony to members of the agriculture committee studying food inflation.

“I firmly believe customers show their trust every day,” he told parliamentarians on Tuesday evening. “We do hundreds of thousands of transactions every day, to the growing customer base and growing loyal base. … I think we do have the trust of consumers.”

'My hostages show support for me by kneeling in front of my weapon'

“And yet you continue to buy groceries. Curious. “I am very intelligent.”

People can not live without food. It has nothing to do with trust.

What a card!

Until they start 'shopping' style

Folks are gonna grow their own veggies and fruit and source out local meat, fish and dairy. That will bring on its own issues but some of food costs are ridiculous. What do you expect?

His statements are backed up by DalhousieU's FoodProfessor who also says 'don't like it? Shop around!'

You can't lose what was never there‼ Trust integrity

Trust me, if I could find everything I needed at locally owned small grocery stores, I would never spend another penny on a big chain store again! These CEO’s have lost the plot.

YoniFreedhoff chains have cornered the market and squeezed out competition signing agreements among their own = KARTELL !! Why do I see price differences between stores that do not make sense ? certainly not result of supply chain; all have the same.
