As Canadians, many of us hear these stories and we shake our heads. It’s awful, but it’s their problem, not ours. We can empathize, and we can condemn, but we’re absolved of any guilt ourselves. After all, we say, racism like that doesn’t happen in Canada.
She’s since deleted her social media accounts, so we don’t know for sure if that’s true. I reached out to the University of Waterloo, but haven’t yet heard back. It’s probably the kind of alumni story any school would rush to confirm.

Oh, there's racism in Canada. Ppl in Halifax were stopped regularly for years for 'driving while black.' It's better than it used to be, it's better here than in the States, but it is not gone/there is lots of work to be done.

Racism exists in every country. Borders do not stop racists or how they feel. I think in Canada it's not tolerated as much as other countries and hence people keep their racism quiet and anonymous.
