MARTIN: Bogus charge against BLM activist raises serious questions yyc

As an activist and organizer of public protests she would be a thorn in the side of the authorities even without her attacks on police conduct.

For police forces, protests invariably present the prospect of conflict, and that is something officers wish to avoid at all costs. All protests, even those wholeheartedly supported by the authorities, bring the risk of violence as opposing forces take to the streets. So a charge laid by an officer alleging she committed mischief by obstructing and interfering with the lawful access to St. Thomas Aquinas School “for reasons of bias, prejudice, or hate based on race or ethnic origin,” has a potential to critically damage her credibility.

As was opined by her lawyer, Chad Haggerty, in a Tweet following the withdrawal of the charge, was this a tactic by CPS to weaponize its processes?“This is very fishy. A ‘clerical error’ of this magnitude against one of the Calgary Police’s most well known and vocal critics? Come on now.”Article contentMs. Nwofor charged with a hate crime made public when the instructions to the investigator were CLEARLY otherwise.
