Marie-Philip Poulin heads cast of top women's players for weekend PWHPA All-Star showcase. including games Kemptville, Gatineau and Ottawa

The festivities will include PWPHA league games on Friday in Kemptville and Gatineau, followed by clinics with youth players and two more games Saturday at Canadian Tire Centre. The event will culminate with a 3-on-3 All-Star Game and skills competition Sunday at the NHL rink.

It’s all part of the PWHPA’s four-team travelling Dream Gap Tour, which allows North America’s top professional players an opportunity to showcase their talents. “In terms of what we’re hoping to get out of it, it’s a great event for the athletes and it’s an opportunity for the fans to see the best players in the world,” said Hefford. “It drives the visibility of the players and we’re fortunate that the event will be broadcast on TSN, which increases that awareness.”

“At every stop on the tour, we always offer up youth clinics so young hockey players get a chance to meet the stars on the ice. Maybe it’s Marie-Philip Poulin, or Kendall Coyne or Sarah Nurse,” said Hefford. “We do give a unique opportunity to the markets. It’s a fun event, but we’ve never had the skills competition before, so it adds another exciting element.”Article content

The hope is that the Dream Gap Tour weekend competitions can bolster attention, along with increasing advertising and sponsorship dollars, so that casual fans of the women’s game will check out women’s pro hockey more often.Article content

After leading Canada to Olympic and world titles, Marie-Philip Poulin named top athlete of 2022 | CBC SportsHockey star Marie-Philip Poulin was voted Canada's top athlete of 2022 on Wednesday. The Quebec native takes home the Northern Star Award, formerly known as the Lou Marsh Trophy, after leading Canada to Olympic and world championship titles. Nonsense. Brooke Henderson was the obvious choice. meant tell this Kinda shameful that Lou Marsh has been relegated to the historical dustbin for some mamby-bamby rename. But the New Canada must erase all memory of the old one, except for the parts where we are supposed to feel some sort of collective guilt that is.
