RCMP say an officer conducted a traffic stop around 11:15 p.m. Friday. The incident resulted in a heavy police presence near a wooded area in Canmore on 11th Avenue, between 15th Street and Larch Place and residents were told to shelter in place for about 90 minutes early Saturday morning. The suspect was located after a short search and sent to a Calgary hospital by air ambulance with serious injuries. No officers were injured in the incident.
On Sunday, RCMP announced that 27-year-old Canmore resident Austin Desylva was charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer and discharging a firearm with intent in relation to the incident.Article content
