VICTORIA --People in Parksville are speaking out after watching a disturbing incident on a beach outside their home, where they say a man cut apart a dead sea lion and took the skull.on Vancouver Island beaches.

“He was using sticks to hack away at it,” said Eely. “Without any tools, he decided to start beating up on this thing for the better part of the day... he was trying to get the head off this thing with sticks and a board.”“Everybody smelled it, and he kept on hacking away and every now and then he would go into the water to clean himself because it was grotesque,” he said.

Great reporting...why not make your title...Man decapitates DEAD sealion for head....oh ya that wouldn't make it sound so bad

In this time of isolation it's important to have hobbies

So no one followed him?.....

It was a f_cking DEAD sea lion. Is CTV News that stupid?

Does journalism school now consist of two years of how to construct click bait headlines now ?

Starting a wet market on Vancouver Island?

Some of these reporters are obviously WE recruits.

Where’s Jihadi John when you need him?

Look up Thomas Sewid's posts in his Facebook group 'Pacific Balance Marine Management'/'Pinniped Society'. On June 20 he is literally calling for people to go out and shoot seals and send him photo evidence of it. If he's not behind this I don't know who is.

So BC residents aren’t holier than thou?

Asshole

Leave the Chinese man alone...he beheaded a dead animal. So what?

Diversity is our strength

Ahole

The headline made me think it was alive when decapitated.

Looks like an Oriental.

Why did you hide his identity in the photo? To hide his race? Or do you not want him to be identified?

Blame it on Trump!

LOL! I have a friend just like this! :)

It was dead. Maybe what he did was weird but there’s nothing morally wrong about it.

He is First Nations that’s why it’s ok and they don’t dare show his face

They should make it illegal to remove any parts of the animal, even if found dead. To prevent people killing them and then later on taking the parts

I’m sure he was your average white boy........NOT

Wtf

Messed up psycho

Orcas kill & decapitate sea lions all the time, often performing the ritual to train their young. UTube

Really!? This is what u took away from this story ? That a man took the skull of the dead sea lion!? INSTEAD of headlining & writing about a possible nut job KILLING Endangered sea lions & beheading them. If you have to use that headline to get views you have a problem

Why blurring out his face in the picture?

Great example of sensationalized fake MSM news. Reading the actual story will inform the reader that the seal was already dead - the man did not kill it - and that authorities say he did NOTHING illegal. Shame on you CTV News. FakeNewsMedia cdnpoli

Tired of thie shit CTV news. Unfollowing

Sure hope the RCMP are investigating this individual...

The main stream media have become very adept at giving false impressions while they are technically not lying and only by reading the article you get the full story. So instead of a traditional click-bait it's really 'if you want to know what really went down, you have to RTFA'

It was dead before he decapitated it, but did he kill it prior to that?

Now your a man! M.A.N. Man, now your a maaayyhhhuunn!

bruh

There are a large number of collectors of animal skulls, the animal was already dead. It may not be for everyone but I’m not sure I see the horror in this event....other than the typical CTV click bait headlines.

Corona 2.0

Disgusting monster.

Sicko.

Not the guy you wanna bring home to mumma that's for sure.

It would be even more shocking if they found headless sea lions that are ALIVE!

If it was dead PRIOR to him taking the skull what’s the big deal? Maybe he uses it for medicinal reasons. As long as he’s not killing them then it’s no big deal. The animals would rot and stay there anyway.

It’s the circle of life.

Classic move.

'Man decapitated DEAD sea lion near Parksville to take skull, rowed away on homemade raft.' Words are important, right? Journalists are no better than click bait now adays.

It was already dead in case you're wondering

Of course you forgot to mention it was DEAD
