Burnaby RCMP responded to Highway 1 at the Kensington Avenue overpass at about 2:30 p.m. after the driver called 911.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over and is asking for witnesses and dash-cam footage from the area. IHIT is also working with the regional anti-gang unit as the shooting is likely linked to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict. The passenger was 18-year-old Meysam Zaki. The driver is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; police are not releasing his name.
“We are releasing Mr. Zaki’s name in hopes that witnesses will come forward who can assist us in building a timeline of his whereabouts in the time leading to his death,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “Any associates of Mr. Zaki or the second victim are urged to speak with police. IHIT is committed to bring justice for this young man’s family.”Article content
