Nearly two-thirds of Canadians believe that the flag, which has been flying at half mast since late May, should be brought back up, according to new polling from Maru Public Opinion. CDNpoli Elxn44

Justin Trudeau said it's up to Indigenous Peoples to decide when the flags are returned to full mast, though it is unclear who would be making that call.

It should have been back to full mast before the end of June. There's a difference between acknowledging a National tragedy or injustice and attempts to collectively guilt & gaslight Canadians. It's now also an attempt to deligitimize Canada by radical 'Landback' activists.

It seems typical of this PM - he’s made what could have been meaningful into a form of whimsical virtue signalling. Without a deliberate and coordinated plan that involves our Nations he makes the gesture appear crass. Missed opportunity.

davidfrum the National Post is hack journalism at its worst...

Agreed, bring flags back to full prominence. We are proud Canadians. Not admiring Chinese dictatorship

Stuck in a history loop of apologizing. Every single race committed horrors. Every country in the world was founded on deaths and wars. All the survivors and families settled after years of legal negotiations. Let’s move on:

But not a schlepp like Trudeau. cdnpoli

davidfrum Do we really need to poll every issue, and does every action need to become an issue? When politicians have nothing of value to say, which is, sadly, their natural default, especially on the right, they rely on symbols & divisiveness, while the planet burns.CynicalGrifters

The flag should be flown upside down as our country is in distress from all the marxists in parliament.

davidfrum I don’t mind being part of the other third who are fine if the flags continue to fly at half mast for the thousands who died in residential schools. It is the least we can do to acknowledge we have found them.

davidfrum So much is wrapped up in the question that was asked. Was consultation with the First Nations included in the question? Raising the flag should be what everyone wants, how do we do that respectfully?

davidfrum A symbol is just that. When that symbol becomes actual change is the day that the people do more than make a promise to change. We've got days symbolizing everything. They're forgotten the next day.

1st Nations (in mourning) disagree with O'toole and his disgraced endorser Conrad Black. Sept.30th at a minimum.

No one asked our Indigenous Canadians.

Flag at half mast, fist still iron hard!

davidfrum Yes, we need an infusion of optimism.

too much for to do their research?! The poll source is questionable... '1514 randomly selected Canadian adults who are Maru Voice Canada online panelists' Random from a non-random source is not random... AND does not represent Canadians. NPfail NPpropaganda

1508 people were polled. Last time I checked, 1508 are not the 'majority of Canadians'.
