Chris Kelades: One last grapple | SaltWire #thinkingoutloud #sheldonmacleod #mma #saltwire #newsCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Plans are in the works for the most significant renovation to Eastlink Centre in its almost 35-year history.

Abbott said much of the discussion revolved around whether the city follows the proposal and renovates the Eastlink Centre or builds new. The problem with building new is the cost, which Abbott estimates is north of $150 million, and he does not think there is an appetite on any level of government to do that. The renovations would see the capacity of the Eastlink Centre raised from 3,700 which it is now to “just a shade short of 5,200”.

The plans for these renovations were first done in 2004 when the price tag was just $6.8 million. Those plans have been updated, and the cost has risen a lot since then.
