all-time list. He was quietly filing his equipment away ahead of holding court with the media from his dressing-room stall.
We were mere seconds into Price’s availability when my plan changed and rendered Byron’s story the footnote to a moment that I knew would forever be seared into my memory. Afterwards, someone asked Price what that tribute and ovation meant to him, and his response leveled me. But for as surprising it was to hear those words come out of his mouth, it was understandable. The Carey Price we saw that season appeared nothing like the decorated legend he had become. He was virtually unrecognizable in the early months, which played a considerable role in the Canadiens falling well out of the playoff picture quickly and never recovering, and he heard more boos and mock cheers along the way than he likely ever through he would from his crease.
“He’s been the face of the franchise ever since he came into the organization, and he carries a lot of weight on his shoulders and is a great role model for everybody and really is a Montreal Canadien down to his core,” said teammate Nick Suzuki. “Just to have him back is special. The fans feel that, and so do we.”
“He’s a quiet guy, he’s got such a calm and passive demeanor to him,” said Byron. “But I know deep down that that meant a lot to him. It meant a lot to his family. He doesn’t always express his emotions, but I can imagine getting that kind of welcome back from the crowd. They showed how much they really love him, and it’s been an incredible run he’s had here in his career. He’s an incredible goalie, and everyone was really happy to have him back — us included — so special night for him.
EricEngels As a Habs fan, I'd love to see Price retire a Canadien. If he wants to move to a contender or finish his career somewhere like closer to his or Angela's home, I'd move him, but if he stays healthy, I'm sure he has plenty of game left. If not healthy, there's LTIR.
EricEngels Eric, your writing in this article reminded me of Bertrand Raymond's writing.
EricEngels We have been here before. It's deja vu. Also remember the love for drouin?
EricEngels Still couldn’t get a win for this guy
EricEngels Oh yes the special relationship between the fan base and the only player on their team that deserves to make more than league minimum is.
EricEngels i'm old enough to remember when a large sect of Canadiens fans were trying to chant him out of town for being a bust who would never win in the Playoffs and should have kept Halak instead of him
EricEngels Ok Price got the attention he needed and wanted but .. We’re f*cking 20 and 44 Eric, give us a break with terms like “memorable” “history”. That record is, historic. Really frustrating, can’t believe what happened to this team this year. Get this horror movie over with ! Ghg
EricEngels Great article ! It shows how Carey cares and how Eric cares as well!
EricEngels Thank you Eric for this piece, simply beautiful!
EricEngels Heartwarming 😢. So happy for Price and all the Habs fans that celebrate his return.
EricEngels Not a fan of much Habs news but he deserves every good thing that happens to him…..after all it seems last year almost broke him
EricEngels Nice to see C.P. back between the pipes. He almost had that shot with his glove on the three on one.
EricEngels Great article Eric. It was good to see him back where he belongs. Good for his soul. Good for ours.
EricEngels We didn’t play Winnipeg tonight though?
EricEngels There was a lot tonight. Be honest. It wasn’t just his comeback.
