The latest report calling for lower alcohol consumption guidelines is riddled with problems and filled with fearmongering.

According to the CCSA, which appears to be run by a new modern version of the temperance movement of 100 years ago, no amount of alcohol is safe. The paper claims that alcohol consumption “causes nearly 7,000 cases of cancer deaths each year in Canada” but doesn’t offer the supporting data. They make risk claims such as drinking even moderate amounts, say an average of two drinks a day, will lead to an 89% increase in the chances of women contracting esophageal cancer.

Why are you cünservatives so against science?

It's the Toronto Star!

OMG another non-news story. No one is stopping people from drinking. Do what you want. No one stops anyone from smoking. It’s called freedom. You make your own educated decision. The Toronto Sun strikes again.

Yay! More government funded control programs. What a joke!

So more lies by more well-funded experts, right?

Very similar to your articles .

Just as I thought, ....a drinker

The advice given is not to stop drinking, it’s just to drink less. Do you really have a problem with that advising people to consume less alcohol? Is that really a big deal that you need to write a fucking column about it? This paper is trash.

And we can carry 2.5 g of Crack coke meth or opiods in BC... but more than 2 drinks a week Hahahha.. covid 3 plus years and all drug / alcohol stores open.... gyms and churches closed!?! Crazy town Canada

I absolutely do not give a toss what the science says. I don’t care if it’s right or wrong. I am going to have fabulous cocktails and no one cannot stop me. Trudeau can get the hell off my liquor cart.

So poison is good for your health now?

nobody is stopping anyone from drinking the alcohol. But the same type of resistance happened when they started putting warnings on cigarette boxes. People don't like hearing inconvenient truths.

So basically like everything else the past 3 years. 🙃

Baby want his bottle.

Brought to you by the same “scientists” that report that men can menstrate and get pregnant. Ok than.

Alcohol good. People like Trudeau eat shit.

Health Canada is a joke don’t listen to them. They tell you that you need six vaccines in 3 years.

'New alcohol guidelines based on faulty science, misleading claims' Anything from the Govt Political Science is misleading ! Don't trust any of their science! .

Well for sure I'm going to go by the unschooled conclusions of a political columnist from the Sun newspaper chain, and not to scientists and public health specailists reviewing 3000 studies since 2012.

Holy crap ! At a two drink per week max I should be pushing up daisy’s by now

Wait. Experts can be wrong?

'those in the booze business are upset with the report'... right because that's more of a reliable source... the feelings of people profiting off booze, totally outweighs the doctors researching the risk. 🤦🏻‍♀️

So you want everyone to get blitzes daily?

Good thing my guideline is 'Do I want a drink? Yes, yes I do....'

They'll do just about anything to blame vax injuries and long term effects on something else ...like alcohol 🤣🙄

Exactly. Good article Have been using heart and stroke guidelines for a few years..back and forth guidelines are confusing and people lose respect for that..

It sounds like Lilley is personally offended. He knows he can still buy the same quantity of liquor at LCBO, no one would count it

Keep up the Scotch then

This is the second time I recent months Lilly has come out in favour of more drinking rather than less. And criticizing those who do say we should drink less.

Oh please

Does any one really give a 💩these clowns say anymore

Same experts that recommend the lockdowns... LCBO was open...

Those numbers are in the report on page 35 onwards…

CBC - misleading claims? Unimaginable.

What else is new in/with Canada 🤦🏽‍♂️

Faulty science seems the norm now. Weird.

You’re losing all credibility there Lilley. IfI was the bos I’d start thinking is this guy good for revenue or not. He’a good for click bites but there’s really no money there. And by the negativity thrown his way, lack of journalism just opinion maybe there’s a better person.

In the U.S., NIAA has low risk for women at 7 drinks per week and men 14 per week. Canada claims the statement is evidence based. Show the evidence.

It’s alcohol. It’s legal to drink. Drink all you want. Exercise your freedom to buy as much alcohol as you little heart desire. Get shit faced. What your getting is a health risk warning. Just like smoking. You complain about feeedoms then it’s, can I choose freely?

No other country has these guidelines. Canada has become completely authoritarian.

I knew it!!! Leftwaffe propaganda. 🍻

Have a drink on me

Are the covid experts behind it? Lol

If someone out there drinks 2 per week, good for you. But these guidelines are otherwise detached from reality. They will do nothing at all for problem drinkers (who are way way over,) and alienate anyone who wants to moderate by their prima facie absurdity.

These so called experts need to stick labels on their foreheads so others can see who they are and show them the respect they deserve.

0 ! I drink 0 drinks ever anytime I'm asked. Especially insurance or Dr. Office. It's 0!

Does anyone really cares about these 'guidelines'?

Is lilley now claiming to be a scientist? 😂😂😂

Isn’t that what your old lady’s boss does

So Brian, when my brother went to dental school 40 years ago the stats then were a 3% chance of oral cancer of some type if you had one drink per day. Don’t think you have your facts right. Maybe interview proper people before expressing your faulty views.

New alcohol guidelines based on bullshit science. There I fixed it for you.

Oh who cares

So why are we even talking about such bullshit.

Where is the report on fast food and GMO food which is not allowed to be labeled as such in grocery stores

So alcohol is good for you and doesn't cause any problems?

Here's the facts from someone smarter than most of us.

Brian Lilley is a political columnist who went to Mohawk College. It's cute that he thinks he should be listened to on these topics.

WHAT?!?! science is never wrong!!! This is outrageous. I need to know you Vax status right this minute.

Justin Trudeau is driving me to drink.

Let me guess: a cancer vaccine coming soon 🤣. Or a report that the covid vaccine cures cancer. Drink up!

It's true Faulty science has affected us all...in every way. To what we eat, wear, put into our bodies, etc. Science used to be a noble pursuit. Now scientists have their hand out for cash to support whatever narrative

Interesting factoid. 11 years ago after bypass heart surgery, I was encouraged and given dietary guidelines by the hospital aftercare program. The best diet included one alcoholic beverage each and every day. Just one but routinely consumed lowered the chance of a heart attack.

Looking for a reason to explain the increase in cancer rates since 2021, perhaps ?

brianlilley should leave science to scientists instead of pandering to his simpleton audience looking for confirmation bias.

'Vaccines are bad' is faulty science

Irony; the government loves taxes from alcohol sales.

The entire study is a joke.

The new grievance of right wing losers.

Fire Lilley,he is just a mouthpiece for the Ford Govt. His Journalism skills are not professional at all

So in other words, we should take their word for it and follow ‘their science’. Why not. Look where the ‘science’ got us with covid. 🤦🏼‍♀️
