The aid will come in the form of $300 payments to the more than six million people who receive old-age security benefits, and an additional $200 for the 2.2 million who also receive the guaranteed income supplement. The parliamentary budget officer has estimated the overall cost of the measure at almost $2.5 billion this fiscal year, in line with government expectations.
The government had to create a new, effective delivery system to ensure payment accuracy and not require the 6.7 million seniors eligible for the extra help to have to apply for the aid, said Seniors Minister Deb Schulte.
This raises the question of the GoC’s technology. With efficient technology, fraud should be addressed and program changes made quickly, effectively. Historically the technology in the OAS has been obsolete. Is technology obsolescence hindering government service delivery?
Are the dispensing fees going to return to normal where a doctor prescribes 3 months worth and the pharmacy is able to give 3 months all at once for one dispensing fee. This one month at a time is only temporary.
