Letters to The Sun, Feb. 20, 2021: Readers respond to Pete McMartin's 'Six thoughts of a year in COVID'

I feel that there was a lot of concern early on about the safety and the efficacy of the vaccine, and Henry — the most visible non-government COVID-19 authority in the province — wasn’t jumping the queue when she was vaccinated. She was leading by example. Henry getting the vaccine wasn’t akin to the captain on a sinking ship stepping first into a lifeboat — it was akin to Gen. Curtis Lemay stepping into the lead bomber on a dangerous mission that he had ordered his aircrews to fly.

The “ship” isn’t sinking. Rather it’s weathering a heavy storm. In these circumstances, it’s important to keep the captain healthy so he or she can command the ship. Like the captain she is, Henry should be among the first to receive the vaccine so she can continue to captain the ship.Response to McMartin’s ‘six thoughts’

Over the last 12 month she has been an amazing ‘captain’, steering us through an unprecedented hurricane and she certainly has not abandoned our ship or province. And yes, let’s hope that everyone will learn from this — we need positive criticism to succeed rather than ranting.
