Sept. 19: Should Maxime Bernier be allowed to debate? Plus other letters to the editor GlobeDebate

: The Green Party’s plan to gradually shut down the oil sands and transition Canada’s electricity to 100-per-cent renewable sources should not lead to enormous job losses.

While Canada’s energy sector does directly employ 270,000 people and fossil fuels do account for 60 per cent of that production, according to Natural Resources Canada, it does not necessarily mean that 60 per cent of those jobs are in peril. NRC additionally goes on to find just 62,042 people are directly employed in oil and gas, while a Clean Energy Canada report from Simon Fraser University finds 59,800 people are already employed in clean-energy production.

Rather than building a pipeline to the Pacific Ocean to export crude oil to Asia, Canadians would benefit from building a pipeline eastward to supply refineries in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes, in order to reduce our reliance on foreign supplies. Our national goal should be energy independence and security, not building what looks to be the wrong pipeline to service the wrong markets at the wrong time.: I commend Tom Koch’s article.

I would like to see more research into whether or not these changes in prescribing practices have saved any lives – or have caused any loss of life.

GlobeDebate The answer is yes. It is up to the voters to keep him and his party out of parliament. No one else should have any say whatsoever. This is supposed to be a democracy.

GlobeDebate Why doesn't he join Marie LePenn and call it a day? tikitorchers

GlobeDebate If your answer is 'no', you don't really believe in democracy. The media should not be unduly influencing the results by blocking parties that are legitimately running - even if many find them detestable. Banish them using the ballot box, not by gaming the process leading to it.

GlobeDebate The answer s yes. He has some terrible and racist ideas but free speech has to be protected. You don’t have to like it but you have to respect his right to say it.

GlobeDebate If he shouldn't be allowed to debate why should he be allowed to lead a political party in Canada?

GlobeDebate No. Keep that minority hating separatist out of debates. Stop giving him press time. cdnpoli

GlobeDebate Nope.

HuffPost is now a part of OathPPC_Retweets I would've liked to have seen after comment on attracting racist/homophobic that we don't condone them. They aren't welcome in PPC nor do we endorse such beliefs. I think you'll find when these types of people look at Party & Platform they'll find its Factually Not Party for them Instead of remembering that debacle, I'm more interested in seeing how fast bernier can get out of town after Oct 21.
