‘Given the cavalier and unprincipled manner in which the Ford government has acted … municipalities are the playthings of provincial governments.’ Ontario’s Greenbelt and more, plus other letters to the editor for Dec. 4

: While Via Rail’s passenger equipment may be nearing the end of its service life, we are also running out of time to mitigate global atmospheric warming. And for decades, the federal government has had on-again, off-again interest in a new high-speed passenger service between, at least, Toronto to Montreal.

Similar high-speed passenger rail links have been proposed from Edmonton to Calgary and Vancouver to Seattle. With electric traction, these trains would provide speedy and comfortable alternatives to greenhouse-gas-emitting automobiles in major corridors. The federal government should take action to provide climate-mitigating travel alternatives in order to achieve our 2030 emission-reduction targets. With the preliminary planning that has gone into these corridors in the past, it should be possible to cut ribbons on high-speed passenger rail routes in seven years.: Consistent with Supreme Court of Canada jurisprudence, “municipalities are creatures of provincial governments.

The Ford government in Ontario has treated its “creatures” in an abusive manner, including: reducing the size of Toronto city council during an election campaign; Bill 23′s massive intrusion into municipal powers in the areas of planning, development charges, heritage protection and environment, among others; Bill 39′s assault on municipal democracy by enabling mayors to pass bylaws with the support of a minority of councillors.

Given the cavalier and unprincipled manner in which the Ford government has acted, it seems more accurate to say that municipalities are the “playthings” of provincial governments.

Ontario people elected him 🇨🇦❤️

This isn’t news. Municipalities exist and the pleasure of the provincial government. They are created by the Municipalities Act which can be revoked with a Parliamentary majority. Stop gaslighting the population.

The only reason I, and I suspect many others, keep you in our feeds in to see the ratio in the comments section against constant far left propaganda. Marxists never win losers.

Ontario isn’t being governed it’s being shaken down. A full on municipal rebellion is the only answer. Humiliation and a bloody nose is something Ford will understand.

My property taxes are skyrocketing under the PC Party. The PCs denied me the right to vote on a ranked ballot. And when OntarioPCParty stripped Hamilton of its zoning rights; it was meant as a threat to all other municipalities. Elon tells me: TrudeauDestroyingCanada 🤣
