I wrote my first letter about food insecurity in 2015. At that time, then premier Wade MacLauchlan announced that P.E.I. would be named"Canada's Food Island." This term is still used in the tourism ads. I find this very hypocritical. The current government has a goal of eliminating food insecurity by 2025. Is there the political will to do so? I think not.I am writing this letter regarding the CPP $2,500 death benefit.

What street is next? Will all the streets in downtown Charlottetown get “ceilings of lights?” There can be no discrimination, can there? Giant wind turbines are being forced into a pristine bird migration area where the community doesn’t want them. This is not kind, this is not fair, this is not about people.

Immigrants who came to P.E.I. with the hope and promise of becoming Canadians have their program ripped out from under them. This is not kind, this is not fair, this is not about people. One thing about small places is that we know of each other and, in politics, politicians sell that connection. We know who politicians are — or at least we think we do — by virtue of knowing their background. There was Dennis King, the Conehead cheerleading the Islander hockey team, and Dennis King, the storyteller sharing tales for enjoyment. There was Dennis King, the emerging leader telling us all about kindness and being about people.
