The 'eyesore' residents are complaining about is worth building, this writer says.

I'm a resident in the Edmonds area. Just like many proposals in the area, this one has been on my radar for a bit. But, like usual, most of the "comments," if you can call it that, seem to be of the same concern that has little to no merit to it. "NO CO-OP! WE DON'T WANT TO BE MAIN AND HASTINGS. NO HOMELESS, NO POOR PEOPLE! NO SKYSCRAPERS!"

As if their whole fear is that they live in a single-storey townhouse/rowhome, but it's going to be "overshadowed" by a six-floor townhouse complex. Or something that might be "slightly" nicer than what they live in. A neighbourhood built in a former industrial zone, trash dump and mining area. Yeah, nothing of ecological value is being lost here.

To be honest, you can really tell what people value the most when they comment: "Loss of property value, crime, poor people ." The usual stuff. Personally, I say: Build it. If the neighbours don't like it, they can move somewhere else. Somewhere "nice." White Rock, Ambleside, North Burnaby, Richmond. Nice neighbourhoods that don't have any issues. I'm sure it's affordable for them.
