Land Rover’s new seat massagers trick your butt into thinking it’s walking via drivingdotca

Land Rover is working on a new type of seat technology to reduce fatigue during long trips by tricking your body into thinking it’s walking.

According to Jaguar Land Rover, the tech boils down to a shape-shifting seat system currently in trials in its the Research division. It works by moving the foam in the seat cushions to recreate “pelvic oscillation,” which is essentially moving each butt cheek separately in the same way they would during walking. The seats can be adjusted to suit different body types and intensities, to suit the driver’s preference.

This is just one of the many technological advancements JLR has tried in pursuit of making the driving experience more pleasurable and relaxing. Other systems are being developed to prevent motion sickness, stop germs, build augmented realities, as well as to monitor brainwaves and heart rates. However, it’s possible it will actually make it to production, especially if it’s something as simple as tricking your butt into getting exercise by fake-walking.
