L'Arche founder Jean Vanier sexually abused six women, report finds

An internal report reveals that L’Arche founder Jean Vanier, a Canadian known for his charitable work to help people with intellectual disabilities around the world, sexually abused at least six women.According to the report seen by The Associated Press , the women’s testimony provides evidence that Vanier manipulated them to have sexual relationships with them over a period from 1970 to 2005. The report does not rule out the possibility of there being other victims.

In a statement published in France on Saturday, L’Arche Internationale said nothing in the investigation suggests people with disabilities were affected. The organization also committed to ensuring that its “154 communities around the world are places of safety and growth for all its members — with or without disabilities.

Vanier responded to those findings in a 2015 letter, saying he was “overwhelmed and shocked, absolutely unable to understand how this could have happened.”

SADLY I am not in the least surprised the sexual harassment and abuse of women has been FAR MORE PERVASIVE than most seem to think it is....

By “report” of course you mean a due process court of law where the accused has faced his accusers...right?

The lowest of the low. Vanier no longer around to defend himself.

Sexually abused women never forget nor fully recover from their horrific experience. And it is just wrong! I find it as abusive that this story becomes a headline after the death of Jean Vanier, with no court hearing or opportunity to speak.

I’m Catholic...I believe in God....but I despise the church. The never ending evil and hypocrisy of those in positions of authority ruining the lives of those most vulnerable is sickening.

Oh dear..under every stone.....

Disgusting. Too many have got away with too much for too long. No mercy for all these abusers hobbling into court on their walkers.
