There’s a reason Biden went public with his plan, and it reflects one of the big differences in how the two countries are governed. U.S. presidents are forced to seek public buy-in because they lack the power to unilaterally impose their spending and taxing plans on the country.
Given the concentration of power in the Prime Minister’s Office — at the expense of Parliament, his own caucus or anyone else — all a Canadian prime minister requires when preparing a budget is a finance minister of similar mind. Trudeau ran into a bit of a problem on that front when his previous minister, Bill Morneau, allegedly got cold feet at the extent of Trudeau’s willingness to pile new debt on old. Freeland has shown herself to have no such qualms.

His pledge to increase taxes to only those who make over 400k/year would be a welcome tax plan to Canadians. Increase the basic personal amount. Would definitely be an agenda I would be willing to vote for.
Wrong. Joe Clark did that as a sitting Prime Minister. (Gasoline $) . Pierre Trudeau immediately mounted a non confidence vote and Joe was removed. Trudeau within the year then implemented the $ hike that was so offensive we had to have an election over it. Look it up...
Probably because Canada's taxes are already high, compared to the U.S. I'm not saying that Canada's taxes are ridiculously 'high', because if you look at Europe you'll see that their taxes are much, much higher than Canada's.
