After $92 million spent, the commissioners don’t know who is committing violence against women — mainly because they didn’t try to find out

The reception afforded the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s report into the residential school system four years ago was very different to that which this week greeted the final report of the National Inquiry Into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

But the spirit of compromise and mutual accommodation was entirely absent from the MMIW report. “We are investigating a past wrong but one that is ongoing and getting worse,” the report said, as it lamented acts of violence stemming from “colonialism and coupled with racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia.” Marion Buller, the inquiry’s chief commissioner, said there is an ongoing “deliberate, race, identity and gender-based genocide.

The report says women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people are being targeted “from all sides” by partners, family members, acquaintances and serial killers, but it does not delve any deeper to qualify or quantify that statement. In addition, the report suggested Indigenous women were three times as likely than non-Indigenous women to report being a victim of spousal violence.

Not always, but most often. There are mitigating circumstances — crimes are committed by people for whom violence has become normalized, often because they themselves were victimized in childhood. The residential schools system’s legacy is with us still, affecting generations of Indigenous people and their children.

“But the allegations of genocide are extreme, and they invite an equally excessive response from those with no interest in building a healthy relationship.”

Seems to be an extension of the Trudeau Liberal Cult's politics of Fear, Division and Hate.

DavidStaplesYEG What a joke this country has become.

1182 women dead over 32 years and 70% of murders were committed by Aboriginal men. How is this genocide? There is a definite need for justice but who are we blaming for this again?

The creation of a panel of independent experts is a great idea but its objective should be to investigate whether Buller and Trudeau should be charged for stealing $92 million in public funds to produce this useless piece of crap.

A $92M inquiry that fails to investigate the perpetrators of the crimes and arrives at a patently false conclusion of ongoing “genocide.” Because it’s 2019 in Liberal Canada.

The inquiry didnt WANT to know who was doing the killing.

The only thing the inflammatory language is going to accomplish, much like JustinTrudeau ‘s rants about rampant white supremacy and bigotry, is it’s going to foster greater feelings of division. While what has happened to so may indigenous women and girls is appalling,...

My sense is that the commissioners had these viewpoints before the inquiry ever started, all the interviews and the $92 million that was spent was just theater

John Ivison: MMIW report is devastating, but its uncompromising nature may limit its impactEven right-thinking people who are appalled by the victimization statistics are likely to recoil at the charge they are complicit in genocide What's there to compromise on? Should they have cushioned the truth to make white folks feel more comfortable? The inquiry had an opportunity to make a real difference for Indigenous Canadians and instead they chose buzzwords and bullshit. In doing so they tossed every shred of credibility it had out the window. The insistence on using the term ‘genocide’ has doomed this report politically. No PM will agree with such an over the top accusation. Especially one who’s father would also be tarred with the genocide brush.

Pentagon chief denies plan to 'hide' USS John McCain from TrumpThe U.S. Pentagon chief on Thursday denied approving plans to hide a ship named for U.S. President Donald Trump's late rival senator John McCain during a recent presidential trip to Japan. 'plausible deniability' Kudos to Pentagon chief! BULLSHIT, they covered the name with a tarp and then removed the tarp and parked a barge to block view of the stern. He's denying it because he knows it is dishonorable. An honorable man would admit what he did and resign in shame.

White House wanted warship USS John McCain out of Trump’s view during Japan visit, sources sayTwo U.S. officials said a paint barge was in front of the USS John S. McCain on Saturday morning when 7th Fleet officials walked the pier to see how everything looked for the visit That's because they knew if he saw it, he'd rename it to USS Donald Trump before the end of the day. All three McCains served their country. Trumpo is a cowardly draft dodger . I'm shocked the Navy would go along with this disgusting act. If Trump saw the ship, he will order an attack on Japan.

John Robson: Censoring free speech breaks faith with Canadians. Don’t go thereThe most fundamental reason for allowing dissent is that we might be wrong. We’ve been surprised before The politicians are terrified of what they can't control so,they pretend that we need protection from pictures amd words They also apparently don't know how to use social media if they are seeing the types of things they claim to be The problem is Liberals are ok with censoring Conservatives. If the tables were turned, Conservatives would never censor Liberals. I dont agree with this at all and I see this as our liberal government infringing on our personal freedoms some might call it a step towards dictatorship
