Air Chief Marshal Mike Wigston, left and Station Commander for RAF Coningsby Billy Cooper walk with Britain's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during his visit to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, England, Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, following the announcement that Britain will work to develop next-generation fighter jets with Italy and Japan. Japan announced Friday that it will jointly develop its next-generation fighter jet with the U.K.
A revised national security strategy, which is expected to be released later this month, is predicted to allow the country to develop a pre-emptive strike capability and deploy long-range missiles. That's a major and contentious shift away from Japan's self-defence-only defence policy adopted after its World War II defeat in 1945.
Japan's new security strategy allows it a bigger strike capability and it hopes to expand joint exercises in Australia, including firing drills that are difficult to conduct at home, Japanese Defense Ministry officials said. Kishida's governing Liberal Democratic Party wants to further relax restrictions on Japanese arms exports and technology transfers so the jointly developed new fighters can be exported.
Wow, incredible
I'm sure they'll be no match for our 40 year old F-18s
