VOCM Question of the Day - Has the sugar sweetened beverage tax reduced your sugar intake?

No because I didn’t drink that garbage in the first place

Not really

No, diabetes took care of that years ago.

Maybe VOCM should have a reporter speak with reps from Browning Harvey, & other distributors, to find out if sales are actually down, up or consistent. Gawd knows we'll never get real consumption statistics from the Provincial government.

I heard they were going to put a fat tax on Bologna in the new year! If they tax salt beef we’re screwed!!

Yes, it made me realize just how much sugar is in some of the 'juice' that we bought. Switched to flavored water.

No!!

No more than traffic laws have reduced the number of crazy drivers on the roads of Newfoundland.

No. But it's impacted my wallet annoyingly so

Maybe ask the government how much of the money taken in has gone towards health care rather than trying to get citizens bickering ?

I've reduced my sugar intake many years ago by choice, not by fascist government. This province is the laughing stock of the country. People need to move and let the elite that stays here pay the endless deficit. Fk this Dystopian province.

Reduced my wallet

Didn't drink it to start with.

It didn't for me, I tended towards sugar free drinks anyway. But I've also given up all of that for health reasons that have come up over the last few months, so the tax doesn't affect me anymore. That said, there are better things to tax than sugar. Large corporations for one.

Tax grab, if you worried about health, there would be more investment in sustainable farming.

🤣

No. I order my sugary drinks from Amazon for less than I pay locally, plus the drinks magically show up at my door, and I avoid the nonsensical sugar tax.

No cause I never drank a lot anyway. But I will not give them a tax the rest of Canada doesn't have to pay only here in this province.... Disgraceful imo!!!!!

Yes

nope

Not even a bit.....

Diabetes sucks, that's what lowered my intake. Word of advice, take care of your bodies and try to stay healthy.

No

IMO sin taxes are coercion through advanced penalty/fines by government who should be serving not manipulating. Our Govs have been fully engaged in behaviour modification which is a disgusting perversion of authority given to gov by its citizens. It’s undemocratic at best.

Tax on the poor.

Boycott pepsi and coke and the rest see how fast the tax goes away

No, it just lined the coffers of our provincial government fat cats with more of our money.

Bet the taxpayers footed the bill for those.

No, that was not the purpose it's just another tax without calling it a tax.

That's what it's supposed to do?

No it's just another way of telling us what to do and taking our money from us

No but I’ve been charged the tax on unsweetened cola’s several times which is wrong. This is garbage

Whatever happened to taking responsibilty for our own health and choices? Government is involved too much in our personal lives IMHO.

Absolutly NOTHING to do with health it's ONLY about how much more money they can take out of our pockets .

No, I understand and appreciate the reasoning behind it, but like everything else, it’s just an increase in the price, and yea a money grab. People just have to accept it, I can’t say it’ll change much.

All they have to do is tax it like they do fuels and then no one will be able to buy it unless they absolutely have to

Do people really believe that taxing people will make them healthier?

A 24 pack of Big 8 water costs the same as two 2L soft drinks, if anyone still thinks that Coke or Pepsi are the only option. Sugared drinks are a choice, don't like the tax? Don't buy 'em?

No, we don’t depend on sugar water. I’m more a water drinker.

No. It's just altered my thinking on the next provincial election.

No not at all. Sugar like anything else is okay in moderation. I know guys who never touch soft drinks yet they are obese from loading up on Jiggs dinners and whatnot. Two of my relatives developed stomach problems from drinking too much milk. Thought they were drinking healthy.

It has made me more mindful of when 2L are on 4 for 5, so I buy in bulk. Haven’t not had a 2L in the house since the tax came into play.

No because I never really bought or consumed those beverages anyways!

If our government wants us to lead a healthy lifestyle Help make the healthier foods affordable Tax take outs Tax coffee joints All this is is a cash grab

It’s increased the Liberal Government’s tax intake.

No. Now get outta my way, I'm craving a Pepsay!

Nope

No

Absolutely NO! Not with the every time sales on fizzy drinks and juices made available by the grocery stores.

The gov isn't the issue. It's that Sobeys and Loblaws racked in record profits jacking up prices well beyond inflation. Socialize food. It shouldn't be a for profit industry.

It is just another tax grab. No.

Nope…

If it was about health they redirect funds towards discounts on milk etc

It's actually making people turn to beverages with artificial sweetners which put them at higher risk of cardiovascular disease.

And we’re off to a blazing start here in 2023…

50%-money grab 50%-behavior modification (Andy's fav.)

Not really, just switched over to zero sugar drinks filled with harsh chemicals and other junk and started giving that to my children. Much healthier option. Especially since the price of fruits and veg continue to rise and not subsidies for that. What a joke.

Nope. It's 100% a money grab (generally from the most vulnerable people), another way to pad the budget.

This is just a tax grab by dear old Andy and his lap dog Siobhan. PremierofNL SiobhanCoadyNL Your days are numbered. Problem is they're going to rob us blind in the meantime.

It was always just a tax grab

Lets be honest its just a tax grab .

Not at all.

There should be zero sugar tax, if people don't want to drink regular soft drinks that should be entirely up to them, not the govt. Bad enough the Carbon Tax is making things expensive as it is, the Sugar Tax is just another way to punish innocent people.

Tax is the word. Just another way for bankruptNL PremierofNL to legally rob more nlers money. SiobhanCoadyNL should never be elected again because of this. sugarmama

It’s no different than booze tax , if they want it they will buy it , I’ve cut back on sugar drinks but more so to eat healthier-

No, we drink zero sugar drinks

Nope

Should Andrew Furey resign as Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Absolutely not.

I’m diabetic, so I don’t drink sugar sweetened beverages.
