OTTAWA — Former cabinet minister Jane Philpott says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau violated the law when he expelled her and Jody Wilson-Raybould from the Liberal caucus. She’s asking Speaker Geoff Regan to declare that their privileges were violated.
A set of amendments in 2015 was meant to make it more difficult to remove MPs from their caucuses, to shift power away from party leaders and toward rank-and-file legislators. Philpott says if Trudeau had followed the rules, it would have taken 90 Liberal MPs to vote to kick her and Wilson-Raybould out, and no such vote was held before Trudeau expelled them on the grounds that the caucus didn’t trust them any more.
The two former ministers have been thorns in Trudeau’s side in the SNC-Lavalin affair, with both resigning from cabinet over the way the controversy has been handled.

She is correct, MP’s are SUPPOSED to be responsible to Parliament not the PM - but why confuse the fools on this thread with facts....
Leave with grace madam...
If there’s a law for this, why isn’t there one for tax evasion? canpoli
That is not what she said. CBCAlerts has already corrected this misstatement, why haven't you? We need responsible journalism. cdnmedia
On CBCnewsalerts: “A tweet went out...today that had incorrect information from a wire story. It stated that Jane Philpott accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of breaking the law when he expelled her & Jody Wilson-Raybould from caucus. The erroneous tweet has been deleted.”
Pretty obvious. No I do not want to be sued so I qualify it that perhaps the prosecutor may see things differently (with a little bit of help from Justin’s friendly reminders from noted associates assisting process)
JT needs to resign!! He is making a mocker of the PM role/seat and of Canada!!!
Bye Felicia!
She said nothing of the kind. If you weren't so eager to smear him you'd have listened, and reported, what she ACTUALLY said. Cheap shot, as usual.
That's not what she said. She's claiming Trudeau infringed on her rights but did not break the law. This needs to be retracted and fixed ASAP.
No, she said he violated the rules.
Trudeau days are numbered
Remember when stephenharper was called a control freak and the media played the narrative like a violin in the lead-up to the 2015 election? How is this guy any better? Will the media throw their weight behind Stop Trudeau?
He must step down as PM.
This ultra secretive regime is a party of one.
Never realized how much Trudeau looks like Woody Harrelson.
This is a joke, and she is trying so hard to think that 200+ MP sat there and didn't agree with the majority that she needed to go. So a vote took place, be it raised hands, or secret ballot, they got booted out. Suck it up, you made the mistake, now you're on the outside...
Trudeau trying to assert his leadership fails again.
I hope they taped him. You know he will just say they were experiencing things differently again.
