Get ready to dust off your dancing shoes, Yellowknifers: a new 13-piece big band is on a mission to bring swing back to the city. | CBCNorth

From right, Ben Webber, Al Jones, Sean Daly and Allan Yeoman practise for the Ragged Ass Swing Band's upcoming show at the Top Knight.

"When my wife and I moved up North, I said, 'I can't be here [for] years without music. So if there's nothing happening, I'm gonna make it happen,'" Jones said. "It's gotten better as we get used to each other," Jones told CBC during a rehearsal Monday evening at Mildred Hall School. "Everybody brings something to the table. It's a very good collaborative group."While impressively large, the band could stand to add a few more players, he continued. That's why Jones is looking forward to their debut performance at the Top Knight on Feb. 18 — which sold out within a week.

"Being a really terrible dancer myself, I would at least be able to not make a complete fool of myself trying to dance," he said. "It … just makes you want to get up and move."

ANALYSIS | Winnipeg budget 2023: Meet the new boss, same as the old boss | CBC NewsWinnipeg property owners can expect tax hikes this year, simply to allow the city to preserve the programs it already has. Mayor Scott Gillingham's first budget is not expected to be too different than former mayor Brian Bowman's last one. Again D-Bags, why am I forced to pay for analysis from one of your reporters? Can you not just give us facts without your bias? You’ve never actually answered my question. CBC I seen a few tik tok where people are saying just rent because you never really own your house.. First part is the bank owns it until paid then the government owns for the rest of your life with property taxes. Where if you rent that's all on the landlord why?.. so govt workers get CPI + increases,, but no one else does.. when you add in the pension and benefits govt workers get, they are far above anybody working in the private sector..

Frustrated Vancouver Canucks fan gets the last laugh in his obituary | CBC NewsIf the Vancouver Canucks were playing, Russell Atkins was watching it on TV and complaining, his daughter says. It was fitting, then, that his obituary featured a joke at their expense. He looks like he causes mischief on an Island that operates a dinosaur zoo. This joke is old as the hills and gets recycled for plenty of teams - really worth a story?

Anti-Ukrainian vandalism, harassment rising at Canadian universities, students say | CBC NewsUkrainian students are facing an increase in anti-Ukrainian hate symbols and harassment on Canadian university campuses, student clubs say. Please STOP donating money and equipment to Ukraine - Canada supplied enough. Both U.S. and Canada should Stop CALL for PEACE - not war We do not want our kids drafted for War If Trudeau cannot handle PEACE talks then he should resign and let Pierre take over. Ukraine officials are buying up large properties in Switzerland driving around in sports cars. hmmm wonder with whose money? Can we audit our money trail? Just because Canadians scratch out swastikas doesn’t mean they hate Ukrainians, we are just two different cultures — in Canada, for instance, the swastika and other Nazi symbols are known as hateful, in Ukraine they’re part of the national identity
