Investors waiting to see whether Fed still expects 3 rate cuts in 2024

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to hold rates steady when the central bank concludes its policy meeting Wednesday afternoon.The answer will come in the form of the Fed's latest "dot plot," a chart updated quarterly that shows the prediction of each Fed official about the direction of the federal funds rate.

The Fed will announce its policy decision at 2 pm ET, followed by Chair Powell’s press conference at 2:30 pm ET. What policymakers hope to avoid is the sort of messy upheaval to financial markets that happened the last time the Fed tried to wind down its balance sheet at the end of last decade.ST.
