Everyone is sure Kenney is going to survive the weekend, but the anti\u002DKenney crowd is clearly excited that things seem to be going their way

Earlier, as Jean waited in line for his convention pass, a man came up to one of Jean’s people, who was standing nearby: The man asked — not aggressively; jokingly, really — whether Jean and his supporters had come to cause trouble.

Alberta Wildrose leader Brian Jean announces a unity deal with the Alberta Wildrose in Edmonton on Thursday, May 18, 2017. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jason Franson“I want to be premier, yes, and I want to be leader of this party,” said Jean, who as Wildrose leader lost the election to Rachel Notley’s NDP in 2015 and, if things work out for him, would face her again in 2023.

There have also been rumblings of rebellion inside Kenney’s caucus. In the spring, more than a dozen UCP MLAs signed a letter, arguing against the imposition of stronger COVID-19 public-health measures during the third wave. Earlier in the fall, there was a threat by some rebel faction inside the caucus to have a non-confidence vote in Kenney, although ultimately the would-be usurpers backed down.

People are on edge, said one delegate; they’re unsure about what the future of the party is, and, said another, they’re unsure to what extent Jason Kenney is the United Conservative Party — he created it, after all. The party might need a scapegoat, said one. But he gives his keynote address to the party faithful Saturday at lunch. Conventions are, traditionally, a bit of a love-in, a way to hype up the base and the volunteers and the members, to get them amped-up about the party and its fortunes.Article contentOn that front, Kenney is likely to talk heavily about economics, and Alberta’s seeming surge out of the gate as the pandemic abates. Oil prices are soaring and the province is profiting.

If Mr Jean wins the bi-election in Fort McMurray then it's game on!

jkenney is an ineptPremier

Oh it’s a party all right a party to celebrate a complete failure on top of all the other failures that have run this province for years.

Jason Kenney should go but he won’t. He continually fails upward, so somebody is allowing that to happen. Look at his track record leading back to his time in the federal government. He screws everything up and he never takes accountability for it. Always someone else’s fault.

A resolute Jason Kenney wins a (mostly) standing ovation from a (mostly) United Conservative PartyWith support among Albertans hanging around 22 per cent, Kenney’s popularity is a topic of deep concern among party loyalists, but so too is the topic of party… My takeaway was the immaturity of some of the UCP delegates. Especially when the vaccine was mentioned and you could hear someone boo. More people in Alberta are supportive of being vaccinated than not. Only the right wing paper would make a heading like that! Good a referendum on an exit be next?
