Evidence is expected to touch on concerns in the federal government about the impact of the trucker convoys on cross-border traffic and supply chains

OTTAWA — The federal inquiry into the Liberal government’s use of unprecedented emergency powers will hear evidence on Wednesday from more senior federal bureaucrats who dealt with blockades at Canada’s border points of entry.

Their evidence is expected to touch on concerns in the federal government about the impact of the trucker convoys on cross-border traffic and supply chains. One document already in evidence at the inquiry shows that Ossowski mentioned the Emergencies Act early on in federal discussions about options.

However, by the time the law was invoked, a blockade at the Windsor-Detroit crossing was cleared by police using existing powers and emergency measures under Ontario’s emergency law. The controversial decision to invoke the federal law is at the heart of Justice Paul Rouleau’s public inquiry, which is exploring the circumstances of the convoy protests and the federal emergency measures enacted to deal with them. The Emergencies Act allowed the government to create special police powers to declare restricted zones where protests were outlawed, compel tow trucks to help clear blockades, and to force banks to freeze participants’ bank accounts.

The Emergency Act was welcomed by the majority of Canadians. Should never have had those trucks downtown. They would not have hung around in the cold. Cops should be evaluated on the numbers supporting the Convoy. That type of behaviour is in our Police and RCMP and Military.

Are they just going to keep calling people till someone says it was a good idea ? Hahaha what a joke and big waste of no money

Best use of federal powers ever. Turn it on. Kick the financing out from under the terrorists. Turn it off.

It wasn't used anywhere but Ottawa.

PP and the Conservatives are simply anti Canadian shills for global polluters.

Commission counsel to Justice Paul Rouleau to present new reports at Emergencies Act inquiryThe Rouleau inquiry begins a fourth week of testimony into whether the federal government was justified in resorting to emergency measures to end the “Freedom Convoy” blockades. It’s not whether it was “justified”. That word is a Liberal distraction. Was the EA invoked illegally, and was that premeditated? I vote yes, most certainly.

Trudeau was wrong. The lockdowns and mandates were illegal and tyrannical. Canadians needed the Freedom Convoy to help bring an end to our suffering.
