Obsidian secured a court injunction against members of Woodland Cree on Monday, ordering them to stop blocking access to the site

Woodland Cree Chief Isaac Laboucan-Avirom stands at the site of Woodland Cree First Nation’s blockade on a road that leads to a worksite owned by Obsidian Energy Ltd.The current standoff between Obsidian and Woodland Cree First Nation started on the weekend, when about 60 members of the First Nation descended on a road that leads to a company site.

Obsidian secured a court injunction against members of Woodland Cree on Monday, ordering them to cease blocking access to the site. A video shared with The Globe and Mail showed Mr. Laboucan-Avirom burning the paper in a small firepit at the blockade. Stephen Loukas, Obsidian’s chief executive officer, said at the time that the company had reached a negotiating impasse with Woodland Cree’s senior leadership.
