Three Fires Group said greater emphasis on recycling could help ease tensions over mining claims between Ontario and First Nations. Read on.

However, some First Nations in the area oppose development because they doubt exploitation could be done without causing serious harm to their traditional territories. In April, Indigenous communities launched a lawsuit against both Ontario and the federal government, saying they hadn’t been consulted on decisions linked to their land. The legal battle came afterthe Ontario legislative assembly’s gallery after they interrupted question period on March 29.

Despite George’s optimism, analysts don’t expect recycling of lithium-ion batteries to take off before 2030 due to obstacles such as the lack of recyclable feedstock and the long life of EVs.
