Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s Fidesz party may be suspended or expelled next week from the main centre-right group in the European Parliament.

BUDAPEST, Hungary — As the Hungarian prime minister’s conflicts with the European Union appear headed to a breaking point, calls are increasing for greater scrutiny of his government’s spending of the bloc’s funds.

Independent lawmaker Akos Hadhazy launched a petition in September meant to gather 1 million signatures and hopefully pressure the Orban government into joining the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, a new body planned to begin anti-corruption investigations over the use of EU funds at the end of 2020.

“This political regime, which is infectious and dangerous for the European Union, is being supported by the European Union subsidies,” Hadhazy said. More than 470,000 Hungarians have already signed his petition, which is not legally binding. While Hungary may have to repay funds to the EU for projects found not to comply with EU rules, observers say there’s plenty left over for the favoured few.

With hundreds of Hungarian media outlets backing the government and Polt considered to frequently look the other way, it’s often been up to Atlatszo and other journalists and watchdog groups to dig deep into the alleged corruption cases.

Politicians grapple with tackling the spread of hate following N.Z. mosque shootingsAs the world reels from an attack on two New Zealand mosques that killed 49 people, politicians in Canada are grappling with how best to handle a political landscape that one pollster says is seeing rising concerns of radical white nationalism. Talk to Scheer and Ford. They're campaigning and ruling on hatred and division. Just like Trump. Start with them. Jagmeet Singh's argument that 'economic insecurity is at the heart of growing fear & hatred' is giving racists & bigots a convenient excuse. Research has proven this to be false. Respectfully; our politicians are already going after a distraction. They are focussing on hate when the focus should be on love. Learn to appreciate the humanity in other people. Be loving but also be FIRM and polite. Gandhi is respected because he focussed on love.
