A union representing federal public servants says hundreds of its members have asked for help navigating challenges posed by the government's return-to-the-office plan.

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada says more than 1,100 of its members have reached out to the union with various concerns about the plan, which mandates federal employees return to office work at least two days a week.

"Many departments and agencies were wholly unprepared for the practical realities involved in this government order." Many employees had been working remotely since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The shift is happening gradually, with all departments required to have the new hybrid work model in place by the end of March.

PIPSC, which represents more than 72,000 employees, says its members have raised concerns about workplace safety, availability of office equipment, network capacity, breach of work agreement, accommodation issues and child-care availability.

The more public servants complain about going back to the office, the more peeved regular Canadian workers will be. Political parties will see this as a great opportunity... promise to cut public service jobs = more votes. Some could end up staying at home, but without a salary.

Yet they knew months ago this was coming. Did someone steal all of the desks and chairs? They should simply go back to the pre-covid office setup and if space needs to be reallocated, start from there. People adapt quickly - see how fast they were able to set up a home office?

Support with getting on a bus? Jeez

An entire sector from another Branch in my dept lost their floor in another building and are now using part of our floor, which is already packed enough. The few times I have had to come in I have had to wear noise cancelling earphones just to be able to focus.

Should be an option of getting fire or going back to work. God sakes people have worked in their office for years and years , now they need help. Canada is turning into a country of the weak and lazy.

Any excuse to put up a barrier and keep union reps going

Did they forget where the office is?

Get back to work .

Try this: no salaries until your but is at your desk! It should work very fast!

Go to work or be unemployed

It's amazing how when offices were closed in 2020 they managed very quickly and without complaints. Now they have to go back to the place known for work, they throw a fit.

It’s simple…remember what you did in Feb. 2020? Do that again.

Astonished by the unkind, uninformed comments. In many cases, no office to go back to- no desk, no chair, no storage, no coat rack & computer they are expected to tote by bus from home along with shoes etc.

Just remember, trudeau is trying to force a vote to use as a wedge for his election ans the union bossess are all hot and horny to give it to him

Go back to work you bunch of privileged snowflakes. The rest of us had to actually work during all this nonsense. Not 'one size fits all', what irony. Good grief.

You mean like the challenge of them moving away from the city they were hired in? Come on, this is just ridiculous. You got hired in an office, temporary conditions were put in place for Covid, it's now over, back to work. Not sure why it's so complicated.

There is no challenge. We, normal people do it every day. Fed parasites simple hate work.

Go back to work or be replaced, plain and simple

Challenges? What challenges. Go to work, sit at your desk and do your damn job you are paid for!!!!

Oh such a hardship, 2 days a week out of your pajamas. Please stop whining and either get back to work or quit.

Excuse after excuse. People don't want to return to offices. We all know why 🐘

The union will make up any facts to prove their point. Exhibit A: CERB was designed and rolled out while everyone was still at the office. Once staff went home, they gave up on any system improvements and racked up billions in fraudulent claims that will never be recovered.

You go to the library, you read and do your SA. People have been doing this for centuries also but in 2023 there are other ways such as internet….etc. We can evolute or still send fax for the next 200 years also, makes sens right?

What's the problem? you wake up, go to to the office then go back home. People have been doing it for centuries.
