Hundreds of drivers exempt from Alberta safety big-rig rules

Todd Korol/The Globe and Mail

The Transportation Ministry confirmed last week that 777 people were granted farming exemptions, which now means they may be eligible to drive semis without restrictions, without passing the stiffer driving and knowledge tests put in place after the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, which killed 16 people. The province has not clarified whether the 777 have obtained licences or are simply eligible to.

Ric McIver, Alberta’s Transportation Minister, has repeatedly pinned the blame on the New Democratic Party, arguing the NDP’s decision to privatize drivers’ tests meant fewer examiners, which then created a backlog. “When I first heard about this, my emotions started with disappointment, then to anger. Now I feel the fight within me to never stop for my son,” she wrote.

Is it the drivers who have already been convicted of homicide who get an exemption?

Now how’s that work? Ride your bicycle or Taxi to Alberta park it jump in a big rig and rip up the roads making 30 cents a mile under the rate Til you buy your experience hoping nobody gets killed Pretty smart. NOT!!!!!

Lots of blame for Humboldt

Is there a pro abortion group? When their friends say their expecting they suggest abortion because that's what they favor. Quit being idiots. Pro life and pro choice. People of faith don't deserve that crap. I am tired of special interest groups abusing our courts. Our legal system is seriously backlogged with far more important cases. Grow up! If you worried as much about abortion as you did about something so 🤬 childish you may have some pull in your argument. First problem is that No Public Funded Infrastructure should be used to promote Political Issues. Period.
