Lac la Hache will soon have faster wireless service through a trial project using Huawei equipment

VANCOUVER — As wildfires raged near the central British Columbia community of Lac la Hache, emergency officials struggled to transmit life-saving information to residents.

While much of the debate has focused on whether Huawei should participate in building the next generation of wireless technology in Canada, known as 5G, the company’s already extensive presence in the country’s 3G and 4G networks has faced less scrutiny. Huawei’s chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, was arrested at Vancouver’s airport in December at the request of U.S. authorities who want to extradite her on fraud charges. Soon after, China detained two Canadians, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, who were formally arrested and accused of spying.

The company submits to third-party scrutiny in multiple locations around the world and meets or exceeds all network cyber security standards, he said in an email. There are only a handful of companies worldwide providing state-of-the-art equipment for LTE networks, Allen said, adding Ericsson and Nokia do not target the rural market globally so there are really no technology partners other than Huawei for ABC to use.

This is a mistake. This allows China both the opportunity to listen in when it wants to and to 'turn off' communications whenever it feels like it. Why are we allowing this?

Hon Prime Minister its time to be a real leader and make the tough decision to ban Huwaei and to be tough on China JustinTrudeau AndrewScheer Huawei

As a communist government funded 'private company', Huawei is determined, no matter what, to implement Chinese government's plan——taking the world under surveillance. The purpose is controlling the world. A war is looming between NATO and China, not the 'trade war'.

China still has Canadians imprisoned, won’t buy our canola because of Huawei, but yet Canada is still moving forward with their 5G Is there not other alternatives that can be developed? JustinTrudeau AndrewScheer

Liberals bought and paid for by Chinese bribes. They must be voted out for that reason alone. Canada has what every country wants as far as resources go. We can't turn it over to a communist dictatorship. cdnpoli
