Even before this week, Conservatives were wondering aloud if the Green Party – coming off a string of seat pickups by its provincial cousins – might be as useful as the NDP in providing an alternative for voters who cast ballots for the Liberals in 2015

Such talk is increasing after the Greens’ impressive by-election win in British Columbia’s Nanaimo-Ladysmith riding earned them a second seat in the House of Commons. It will reach fever pitch if Elizabeth May succeeds in wooing Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott, the dissident former Liberal ministers who seem to be flirting with running for her party.

But there is one big question that should still give Conservatives pause as they look ahead to vote splits, and that complicates matters for anyone else trying to make sense of a crowded field: How much are parties, other than the ones led by Mr. Scheer and Mr. Trudeau, prepared to run national campaigns?

This campaign, they should be able to do more. But while the Greens set a personal best by fundraising nearly $800,000 in 2019’s first quarter, they’re still nowhere near the same ballpark as the Tories or Liberals in what they can afford to spend. Nor do they have large teams of experienced staff and volunteers, reams of voter data, or hundreds of well-vetted candidates.

In other words, there will likely be many places where Canadians never see a Green or NDP advertisement, candidate or volunteer.

A better question will be how many dissapoited Liberals who feel betrayed, will vote to get the government they want via the Conservatives?

Another embarrassment to the already embarassing Canadian political landscape.... can't this pantload get a real job? Doubt it

Scheer is no option. Ever. But. He is here. I can either not vote, a sin, or I can vote holding my nose for Trudeau, I give the greens nada, I am disenchanted with the NDP...SO....I think it's time for the NDP and why not? It's their turn, absolutely. Fire it up NDP....go!!!

Scheer is a Minnie harper

Actually we can hope Conservatives and Liberals split the centre right vote. Voters are figuring out Liberals only campaign on the left but Govern on the right. Today’s Conservatives are much farther right than 30 years ago. CDNpoli

Has anybody considered that there is no centre left any more ....that the left are falling all over themselves to be the new left of left, the fabulous? The centre left is now Conservative territory and that is why they are going to win big time this fall.

No need. Anyone that is even remotely close to centre knows how much of a fraud JT is and how the Conservatives are the answer.

Not much

The should run their campaign to win the election; rally centrists and center right since Liberals are so far left.

If you’re voting Cons you are voting to repeal women’s rights, anti immigration, white supremacy and a Mirroring of Trump by way of zero platform.

Left - centre? He’s your man!

The centre left hasn’t had an original idea since the mid 1960’s. They are to blame for their own demise. cdnpoli

I think he should count on getting the votes from those CDN’s tired of this virtue signaling and incompetent and corrupt liberal government.

Never Conservative!

They are pushing it in conjunction with their corporate media associates.....they know that the more people they can siphon off to the NDP or Greens the more likely they are to become government! And those other parties kid themselves about holding the “balance of power”🙄🙄🙄

G&M, get it straight the right are far ahead and all your propaganda will not change a thing

If Trudeau wins after SNC, the Norman scandal, multiple Obstruction of Justice crimes, smearing of innocent women (Raybould and Phillpot) and a litany of broken promises, then Canadians deserve him...

The left will go NDP or Green; right will shift to the Cons. The centre will hopefully be smart enough to realize the Greens are further left than NDP (GND socialism pkg) & will either stay Liberal or shift Cons, IF AndrewScheer has a climate plan & purged human rights issues.

If they really wanted that, he would knock off the ridiculous rhetoric he keeps belching into the airwaves & online about Trudeau & he would ditch the white supremacists until after the election. However, he is an ass so not much odds at that happening soon.

Kelly McParland: Keeping houses off floodplains should be in Scheer’s climate planA crisis is one thing, but a crisis that affects residents in Ottawa, or the big voter regions near Montreal or Toronto, is a problem for all Canada It should be every governments priority, not just federal, to keep houses off floodplains and those that don't should be read the riot act. No-brainer. Forbid it and cancel insurance coverage. Insurance companies play the odds based on statistics and probabilities.
