The House of Representatives does not have a Speaker after three weeks. The Democrats and eight Republicans led by Rep. Matt Gaetz ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy.Nominee Majority Leader Steve Scalise didn’t even reach the House floor. Nominee Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan lost three floor votes, with more “no” Republicans in each round. We know none of the Democrats will cross the aisle and vote yes. If all Republicans are present, then the nominee needs 217 Republican votes.
I, _______ , hereby pledge to support the Speaker Designate duly elected by the House Republican Conference—regardless of who that candidate is—when their election proceeds to the House Floor. Further, I pledge to vote for the Speaker Designate on the House Floor for as long as they remain the Speaker Designate.
Maybe the Republicans should have won more elections last year. You know, supporting the candidate who could win the district.Politics is like hot dogs. The public really doesn’t want to know how it gets made. So, please, just pick somebody and get the party off the news.Funny how all the RINOs suddenly whining about ‘please just pick somebody’ weren’t saying that a week ago when they were voting on Jordan.
Keep the House closed for a while more. Maybe let it stay closed until the feral government has to shut down lots of operations, too. Works for me. It’s a far better deal than that ridiculous debt-ceiling deal McCarthy did, or that repulsive CR funding that he did that every single Democrat voted for, save one.Of course, no one above a 90% will be considered. McCarthy is at 78% during the 118th Congress. Gaetz is at 84%.
