Hockey Canada releases roster for cancelled women's world championship. MORE:

The tournament was scheduled to begin March 31 in Halifax and Truro, N.S., before being cancelled Saturday due to concerns over the spreading novel coronavirus.

The roster included 18 players who were on Canada's team that finished third at least year's tournament in Espoo, Finland, and 20 players who competed in the Rivalry Series against the United States in December and February. The loss of the year's marquee event in international women's hockey was the latest blow to the sport.

More than 200 players formed the Professional Women's Hockey Association in the wake of the CWHL's collapse. They refuse to compete in the five-team National Women's Hockey League because they don't feel its financially sustainable.Forwards — Victoria Bach, Milton, Ont.; Emily Clark, Saskatoon; Melodie Daoust, Valleyfield, Que.; Sarah Fillier, Georgetown, Ont.; Loren Gabel, Kitchener, Ont.; Brianne Jenner, Oakville, Ont.
