Hockey Canada has hired former Supreme Court Justice Thomas Cromwell to lead a review into the organization’s governance structure amid growing calls for its leadership to step down over its handling of alleged sexual assault cases.

Hockey Canada president and CEO Scott Smith, second from right, is seen during parliamentary hearings last week where MPs from multiple parties called on him to resign over his organization's handling of sexual assault claims.

"We have heard Canadians loud and clear and are committed to making the changes necessary to allow us to be the organization Canadians expect," wrote Michael Brind'Amour, chair of the Hockey Canada board of directors in a statement. Hockey Canada's president and COO Scott Smith has resisted stepping down despite MPs from several political parties calling on him to do so. Smith vowed at a parliamentary committee last week to lead a culture change with the organization.

The fund was used to settle up to the maximum of the $3.5 million lawsuit over the alleged 2018 sexual assault. NDP MP Peter Julian calls Hockey Canada's latest announcement "a tactic to delay" work needed to be done "to fix fundamental problems."

Should Justin Trudeau step down to because he had sex with a 14 year old when he was a teacher?

The way Canadians navel gaze and tilt at windmills this will probably generate a 10,000-page report that will cost millions and will end up being ignored. It's what we do though eh.

I for one am shocked that hockey people could be so corrupt and incompetent when it comes to running a large organization.
