Hiring process ‘broken’ in many Canadian firms, experts say. What’s the fix?

“It’s ridiculous. We would never imagine saying, ‘I need to go dress shopping’ and then you show up and you have no idea if there are any on the rack? … You would never be unprepared like that. But that’s the way the hiring process is in a lot of organizations. So I get why some job seekers are frustrated … Because there isn’t transparency, there isn’t the efficiency,” McVanel explained.

“I wouldn’t even get a call saying whether or not I’d been advanced and when I checked at a different time the same company was looking for the same position,” said Feguson.Story continues below advertisement“You’re expected to go through the whole application and interview process before finding out . If you ask, the company assumes you’re just in it for the money. Like, no … I need to make sure I can keep a roof over my head,” said Carrie Campbell who resides and works in Halifax, N.S.

“Employers have to take some responsibility for advertising to their target audience in order to reduce the amount of time they spend screening candidates who don’t fit the criteria as employees,” she said.

Your 'Expert' says the problem is lack of professional HR staff in companies. You mean like this? 👇 HR _IS_ the problem. It's become a corporate cancer, killing its host.

Yeah it's screwed up employers send you on a goose chase thinking you qualify for the job when I. Fact they only wanted qualified people

1/It’s not broken, it just took a pandemic and some time off for people to realize they didn’t want to put up with half the shit in their previous workplace and found they were better off all round working for themselves..this will continue..

And over 2 years were added onto people’s ages as a result of the COVID show around the world!

4 over 1.5 years, some people lost their chance 2 contribute towards their retirement plans, even though they were taught time is money! Education got hit hard &new generations lost least proper education! What is the meaning of life experience 4 new generations? Going online?

Future has become futuristic for many people in Canada! Renting indefinitely! Carrying grocery bags forever! What a life! Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' aliiiiiiiiiiiiiive!

As always, the honourable chimpanzee politicians/policy makers set policies, as they still have their job, with full benefits, and contributing towards their retirement plan, yet many ordinary people's lives are affected by such policies! The problem is within the system itself!

You guys will put out a million different copes to avoid blaming the actual culprit - low wages.

Employers write terrible job ads, fail to offer a living wage, then complain about a labour shortage during an ongoing pandemic that can k'll or disable people.

MASK NEEDS TO BE ON! GET THE MASK ON NOW! OVER THE NOSE, UNDER THE CHIN! WEARING A MASK IS MANDATORY AT ALL TIMES, NO EXCEPTIONS!

The only thing broken is the remuneration and compensation packages are out of alignment with corporate profit margins
