Horton Griffins' Frank Oulton kicked a rouge in overtime for a thrilling 11-10 victory over the Citadel Phoenix in Nova Scotia high school football league quarter-final action on Sunday at Saint Mary's.
The Griffins worked the ball to the Phoenix one-yard line following a five-yard run by Akeem Gray and a face-mask penatly.Oulton also kicked a 26-yard field goal and a convert for the Griffins.But the Phoenix rallied with a 35-yard field goal from Mac Carruthers and a 20-yard TD pass from quarterback Sam Martin to Owen MacDougall forced overtime.
The Auburn Drive Eagles host the Central Kings Gators in the other quarter-final on Monday at the Cole Harbour Turf.The No.3 seed Phoenix still have a chance to move on as the highest-seeded loser in the quarter-finals advances to the semifinals. A win by No.2 Auburn against No.5 Central Kings would allow the Halifax school to advance. If Auburn loses, they still advance.
