HFX Wanderers star forward Joao Morelli will miss at least the first half of the 2023 season while he recovers from major knee surgery. - CANADIAN PREMIER LEAGUEThe HFX Wanderers announced their training camp roster on Wednesday and one name that was missing stood out.

Morelli tore his ACL in the second game of the 2022 campaign at Atletico Ottawa and hasn’t played since. As per league roster regulations, he will not count as part of the club’s salary cap given the length of his injury. The Wanderers will have seven forwards , six midfielders , eight defenders and keeper Yann Fillion at camp, which began this week.

The Wanderers will train at the BMO Soccer Centre in Halifax until the team departs for Auburndale, Fla., on March 13 for a series of exhibition matches.
