The top five affectionate nicknames used globally and in 14 languages are Babe, Love, Baby, Honey and Dear, according to a survey of nearly 2,000 people conducted in January by theIn English Canada, the top five were Honey, Babe, Sweetie, Baby and Love. In French, the favourites were similar: Bébé, Cheri, Mon Amour, Mon Coeur and Chaton.

There were differences by nation, as well, the survey says: “Darling was a popular name in Dutch, Spanish, and Japanese, but it is one of the least liked in German, Portuguese and Hebrew.”
