Doris Grinspun, the CEO of the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario, said she has been "pleading" with provincial health officials to make the change for weeks as outbreaks continue to attack vulnerable seniors.
The province also reported outbreaks in 58 long-term care homes, with 464 COVID-19 case among residents and 78 deaths. The data also show 351 cases of the virus have been reported among staff in the facilities. Vicki McKenna, president of the Ontario Nurses' Association, the union representing nurses, said the government must issue an immediate order to stop multiple employer situations.
Late Wednesday, the Ministry of Health said the province's chief medical officer of health would be issuing a directive requiring all staff and essential visitors to long-term care homes to wear surgical masks. They will be required regardless of whether the home has an active outbreak or not.
It’s really about time hope all are listening. BC has been onto this for some time and it’s made a difference
No employer hires part time, so must work many sites. Respiratory Therapists also need to do this to oay rent.
I am an LPN in BC, used to work at 3 places but since mid March, I had to choose one facility to work due to Covid19. My hours are dramatically reduced. However, I am not eligible for CERB...We casual health care workers need support. BCNursesUnion
Duh!
Maybe if hospitals and senior homes would give them full time hours they would not have to work at multiple locations.
PSW’s need to be certified professionals, just like all other healthcare workers. They need training that is board certified. For their safety and for the safety of their patients. Their pay should reflect this training too.
As a PSW we are taking care of the most vulnerable, and we have to do everything to keep them safe. some LTC are really taking every precaution ( screening and mask during every shift) and others don't. So I prefer stay in one place if this will help my residents.
This the same when agency nurses are employed at multiple sites. This only benefits the institution but NOT our patients.
CTV_AvisFavaro Then pay them more to stay at one nursing home and PSWs!
its one upside of working in healthcare flexibility ....we wear masks if we didnt get our flu shot. butt out
Doh!
Or other jobs as well during this time...
PSW's need to work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Many jobs in the health field are part time hours.
My roommate is a home healthcare worker going between multiple private family homes AND multiple nursing homes EVERY DAY!!! She's had a bad cough, shortness of breath/runny nose for past week and employer hasn't even given her a mask. This is allowed in ONTARIO
Little slow figureing that out. 😒
in my travels … doctors are stupid and looking for $ … nurses really care and do their job … so well what they say is paramount to me
